From Passion to Purpose
My relationship with natural hair started at 11 years old. I grew up relaxing my hair every wash day for so long that I believed I had straight hair. That was the norm back then.
Watching the natural hair movement emerge changed everything. It inspired me to look deeper into my Sierra Leonean heritage and the plant-based wisdom that had been there all along. Simple, powerful botanicals that had nourished hair and skin for centuries. That curiosity didn't just reconnect me to my roots; it became the foundation for everything I'd build.
By 16, I'd turned passion into practice as a self-taught textured hair stylist. Editorial shoots and countless conversations with clients in my own space taught me that styling wasn't enough. I wanted to understand what was actually in the products I recommended.
It was during my dissertation at University of the Arts London, where I studied media communications, that I really started unpacking what My Hapii could become. I explored how social media was shaping the natural hair movement and what it meant to create care that's both culturally rooted and genuinely effective. That research didn't just inform my brand; it became the blueprint for everything My Hapii stands for today.
So I pursued a diploma in natural hair formulation, juggling it alongside my full-time work as a graphic designer. The gap was glaring: despite years of market growth, afro-textured and curly hair care remained unnecessarily complicated. My clients kept asking, "Why can't I find products that just work?" They noticed my preference for plant-powered, handmade formulas. That curiosity planted the seed for My Hapii.
But this brand addresses deeper challenges I witnessed every day:
Simplified routines for real life. Whether you're transitioning between protective styles, maintaining locs, or nourishing your scalp, My Hapii moves with you, not against you.
A space for everyone. Hair care isn't gendered. My Hapii is proudly gender-neutral because great care knows no labels.
Relearning across generations. So many of us were taught to hide or "tame" our natural texture. My Hapii is part of a movement to unlearn those narratives and rediscover healthy hair care rooted in self-love and cultural pride.
Every bottle I handcraft in the UK bridges Sierra Leonean botanical traditions with modern formulation science. It's a return to simplicity, a celebration of heritage, and a commitment to care that honours you exactly as you are.
